New Enrollments or Registration

Beginning March 1, 2019, all new student enrollments for children entering kindergarten through 12th grade will be done at the the administrative building on Island Blvd.  Please call the main office - 570-286-3721.

2020-2021 Kindergarten Registration

A child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if she/he has attained the age of five (5) years on or before September 1, 2021. Children eligible for registration are those who will enter kindergarten who did not 30.attend kindergarten during the current 2019-20 school year.

Contact any district office to obtain a Registration Appointment form.

Although registration is being conducted at each elementary building, final building assignments will not be available until early August.  Your child’s school building assignment cannot be guaranteed during the registration process.

McKinney Vento Homeless Act

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Act guarantees a free and appropriate public education for all homeless children and youth.  Federal and state laws make the school district’s responsibility clear.

  • A student whose family becomes homeless may remain in the school he/she was attending prior to becoming homeless for the duration of the school year.

  • If it is feasible, a student may transfer to a school if it is closer to his/her transitional housing.

  • The receiving school may not prevent or delay the enrollment of a homeless child by requiring proof of residency or lack of documentation such as immunization records.

  • Transportation for homeless must begin within 5 school days, but sooner if possible.

Reminders:
  • All visitors must use the visitor entrance and report to the office.
  • All clearances must be on file in order to participate in classroom activities.
  • Please inform the office no later than 2:30 pm of any changes in your child's transportation home from school.
  • When absent, students must submit a written excuse within 3 days of the absence.  Otherwise, the absence will be considered unlawful.
  • Lost and Found is located in the school lobby.  Items not claimed at the end of each month will be donated to a local charity.
  • Educational Journey requests are to be submitted 10 days prior to the trip.
Principal's Message
April 3, 2020

Good Morning Oaklyn Students and Families,

Parents may be having a difficult time explaining the pandemic and school closures to their children.  At the very bottom of this page there is an attachment to a file containing a social story that can be read to your children.

Today is International Kids Yoga Day!  Many of our teachers incorporate yoga into their daily classroom routine.  A popular YouTube site, Cosmic Kids Yoga can be accessed on the link below.

Join us in wishing the happiest of birthdays to these students.

Makenna Camp - Grade 1

Makenzie Camp - Grade 2

Ben Aurand - Grade 2

Also celebrating a birthday this weekend is 4th rade teacher, Mr. Boyer!

I would like to keep adding photos to our Braves Blog.  Parents are welcome to email pictures of things the students are doing during the closure.

That is all for today. Have a great weekend! I will post a new message each morning.  Remember we miss you, keep learning and be safe!

Mrs. Farronato

Students can log in to the website and use Smart Futures at home.  For students currently in 3rd or 5th grade, go to Smart Futures.org and enter their User ID and Password.  If they do not remember their login information, feel free to contact me at hoffmand@shikbraves.org and I will forward it to you.

SAFE2SAY SOMETHING

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.

Here’s how it works:

  • Submit an anonymous tip report through the Safe2SaySomething system  (1-844-723-2729) If this is an emergency, please call 911.
  • Crisis center reviews, assesses and processes all submissions
  • Crisis center sends all submissions to school administration and/or law enforcement  for intervention
  • If needed, crisis center may contact tipster anonymously through the app
